The Head Teachers ensure that children are comfortably seated at tables that are between waist and mid-chest level and allow the child's feet to rest on a firm surface while seated for eating.

The children eat all their food in their home rooms or respective groups.

SOCIALIZATION DURING MEALS

Teacher/assistant teacher/nurses sit at the table and eat the meal or snack with the children. Family style meal service is encouraged, except for infants and very young children who require that a Nurse feeds them. The head teachers encourage social interaction and conversation about the concepts of color, quantity, number, temperature of food, and events of the day. Extra assistance and time is provided for slow eaters. Eating is always an enjoyable experience at the YKROK centre.

PROHIBITED USES OF FOOD

Teacher/assistant teacher/nurses will encourage, but not force, children to eat. Teacher/assistant teacher/nurses will not use food as a reward or punishment.
